Dr. Kevin Cottingham
Dr. Kevin Cottingham is a native of Birmingham, Alabama whose always had a love for helping others in his community. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his medical degree from The University of Alabama School of Medicine. Dr. Cottingham’s post-doctoral training includes serving as a Surgery Resident at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and as a Surgery Resident and Surgery Intern at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama.
Dr. Cottingham opened his practice in January 2009 and is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care that focuses on General, Laparoscopic, Robotic and Bariatric Surgery in a professional and compassionate environment that supports healthy living. He is board certified by the American Medical
Association and has received honors by the State of Alabama Commendation for Exceptional Patient Care. Dr. Cottingham has also performed numerous research studies in Preoperative and Postoperative Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass procedure, Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, and the Effect of H2 Blockers on Composition of Gastric Residuals in patients. In his free time, Dr. Cottingham enjoys spending time with his family and is highly dedicated to serving the community for which he serves. He is married to Jennifer and they have three beautiful children. Dr. Cottingham’s dedication to the Cullman community is evident in the large number of satisfied patients that he serves at Horizon Surgical.
Donna Walker
Donna Walker is a registered nurse employed at Horizon Surgical since 2009. As a member of the surgical team, she is committed to taking care of surgical patients from their initial office visit to post-op recovery. She takes care of scheduling surgery, any testing that may be needed, obtaining insurance approvals, and answering any questions the patient may have along the way. She earned an ADN from Wallace State in 2008, where she also received the Florence Nightingale Award. From the beginning of her nursing career, she knew she wanted a nursing role where she could get to know her patients on a personal level. It is important to her to take care of the patient, and not just the patient’s problem. Donna grew up locally and married her high school sweetheart. Her husband served in the United States Army where they raised two wonderful children. After her husband retired from the US Army, they returned to their hometown to be near family. Family is the heart of her life and she enjoys spending time with her family and two wonderful granddaughters.
Jacob Taylor
My name is Jacob Taylor and I am a nurse practitioner. I assist Dr. Cottingham in surgery and also see patients in our clinic for office visits and inpatient hospital stays. I went to the University of Alabama in Huntsville for my bachelor and master degrees and trained under Dr. Cottingham for some of the time I was in school. I graduated with my master’s degree in 2017. I was also certified as a robotic surgery first assistant in 2018. I have a passion for exercise and nutrition and am always excited to see people make healthy choices that make them feel better. I am also open to discussing weight control methods and ideas to be more healthy. I was born and raised in north Alabama and love living here. I hope we can assist in whatever general surgery or bariatric surgery service that you need or are interested in discussing.
